Just 35 minutes by fast ferry from downtown Auckland is the beautiful island of Waiheke – home to wineries, olive groves, artists and beautiful beaches. People do things a little differently on the island, and this tour delights in giving you a truly unique experience with an emphasis on Waiheke’s olives, wine and native flora.
Your adventure starts immediately off the ferry – an easy walk with Naturopath Helen Elscot of Herbal Health Waiheke to the main village of Oneroa to learn about the regeneration of native plants on Waiheke and their uses for food and medicinal purposes. In Oneroa we visit the still of Jill Mulvaney of Alembics to learn about the distillation of herbs and see a demonstration. During this time we will have morning coffee/tea.
A visit to Waiheke would not be complete without a visit to a winery. At Goldie Wines we visit the site of Waiheke’s first vineyard created by Kim and Jeanette Goldwater, who produced iconic wines here. The vineyard is now operated by the University of Auckland as the Goldwater Wine Science Centre, a premium wine education facility. We will tour the winery, enjoy a wine tasting and have a light shared platter lunch.
A drive further along the island brings us to Rangihoua Estate, producer of award-winning olive oil. Our tour includes a walk in the olive grove and an explanation of the olive oil making process followed by tastings. All too soon it is time to catch the return ferry to Auckland. We know that you will want to return again!

Visit a local South Auckland school to learn more about the government funded free Fruit in Schools programme, see native New Zealand flora in the Botanic Gardens and taste award-winning wines, all in the southern suburbs of Auckland.
Located in the heart of one of Auckland’s Maori and Pacific Island suburbs, just 20 minutes from the heart of the city, you’ll find East Tamaki Primary School, a school where fruit and vegetables take centre stage. Tour this friendly school and see how industry and government have joined together to deliver a free fruit and vegetable programme that is turning young lives around. Hear about the changes in learning that have occurred, see the extensive vegetable garden project that has come out of this initiative and visit the kitchen where children prepare and share the food. You will not only be visiting but also contributing to this initiative, as part of the tour cost includes a donation to the school that will be used to help fund the valuable work they do in raising the awareness of the importance of fruit and vegetables in well-being and health. Enjoy morning coffee/tea in the school grounds.
At the Auckland Botanic Gardens, a park guide will take us to view the range of diverse and unique New Zealand flora. Due to New Zealand’s isolation, most of our plant species are unique to this country.
Taste award-winning New Zealand wines at the beautiful Villa Maria winery. Villa Maria is one of the pioneers of the New Zealand wine industry and they make a wide range of wines from varieties of grapes grown in various locations in the country.
